You land at Changi. It's 11 PM. Your Dutch SIM charges €9 per megabyte and you need a Grab to the hotel. That's the moment most travelers discover, too late, that they should have sorted their data before boarding in Amsterdam.
Singapore and Malaysia are the perfect two-country combo trip. Close together. Easy overland crossing or quick flight between them. And yet most people either overpay on roaming or waste an hour hunting for a SIM card at the airport. There's a better way.
Kuala Lumpur to Singapore is about 350 kilometers. Trains, buses, flights - options everywhere. A lot of travelers do both in one trip. Two weeks: a few days in KL, maybe Penang or Langkawi, then south into Singapore for the finale. Or the reverse.

And Malaysia is a different story entirely. Grab is essential there too, and it needs data. Google Maps between neighborhoods in Penang is not optional. You need data. Full stop.

The Johor Bahru - Singapore crossing by train or bus is one of the most traveled borders in the world. It can take 20 minutes. It can take two hours. Either way, you want data while you wait. Queue updates, messaging your accommodation, looking up whether you need to declare that bottle of Duty Free Milo. All of that needs data.
